Julie has been an active member of her local Rotary Club since 2008. She has recently taken over as President and is pictured receiving her chain of office from Ambrose Fowler, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Brigg.
Rotary is a group of men and women of mixed ages and backgrounds who meet regularly on to enjoy each other’s company to use their collective energy, experience and professional skills to make a real difference to the lives of others whilst having great fun together.
We particularly enjoy hands on projects in the local community and have close links with the Brigg Gymnastics Club, Brigg Business Partnership and Brigg Food Bank. The schools are assisted through primary Reading Support and Literacy projects whilst the secondary schools enter competitions and we also provide invaluable interview practice for university and apprenticeship interviews.
We are very active in the local community running projects and events such as an annual Disability Games, Know Your Blood Pressure Days, planting bulbs, wild flowers and trees in designated areas and an annual Sponsored Walk.
Julie helped raise funds herself in support of the Disability Games 2015-16 by taking part in a tandem parachute jump from 15,000 feet. Although a crazy thing to do, much needed funds were raised in support of this extremely worthwhile event. Pictured below is Julie taking to the skies and photos from the games event itself.
We support the international community with numerous emergency and aid projects, Shelter-boxes and Trade-boxes. Every December we deliver Christmas parcels to those in need in the Brigg area. These are funded through generous business and private donations or Club activities and prepared by members for delivery. We are one of the most active clubs in supporting Rotary's own charitable fund called Foundation enabling this to be a major player in global relief projects such as Polio eradication, Aids education and Malaria prevention.
